Part I - Lore

Wakfu and Dofus are part of the same universe, the "Krosmoz". They are simply different eras:

The Age of the Dofus begins at year -211, when the Primordial Dofus (Dragon egg) are laid. The first six brought harmony to the world and allowed the god Xelor to create his Clock and oversee time in the World of Twelve. All dragon eggs hold great power, and the Primordial six particularly so.

The Wakfu Era begins in 789 with "Ogrest's Chaos". Wakfu is the energy of creation. When Ogrest collected the six Primordial Dofus and confronted the gods, his beloved Dathura mysteriously fell into the abyss. His magical tears flooded the entire world and turned continents into islands.

The World of Twelve is named after its twelve gods:

Like many things in the Krosmoz, some of their names backwards hint at their theme. For example, Xelor is the god of time and Eniripsa is a healer.

Each has a dedicated class that dictates the disciples' appearance, but they are all human.

They had a certain appearance in the Age of the Dofus...

Souls reincarnate in the Krosmoz, and a newborn can belong to any class (or none) at birth, regardless of their parents' class(es). You have until puberty to decide on your faith. If you are unaligned by then, you gain no powers and look like a regular human.

There are several more civilized races that don't worship the Twelve. Those aren't human. Some examples include...

Kaniger...

...and many more!

What about Eliatropes?

Eliatrope

Wakfu-wielding, portal-making space conquerors and their dragon twins. Not playable and not exactly human until proven otherwise. Wanna know what's under the hat? Watch Wakfu.

What about Eliotropes?

Eliotrope

A class that only exists in the MMOs so people can play something that feels like an Eliatrope without breaking the story, and is otherwise mostly absent from the lore.

Part II - Media

The majority of these can be found in the Downloads section, further down the page.

Dofus animation:

Dofus: Aux trésors de Kérubim

Ankama's second animated series; 52 self-contained 10-minute episodes starring the old Kerub Crepin telling tales of his adventuring days to Joris the immortal badass, his adopted grandson.

Part 1 - Le Retour de Julith

The first Dofus movie, continuing the story from the series with a massive adventure and a cast of new/old characters.

Ogrest, la légende

45-minute OVA that explains Ogrest's birth and hints how his tears destroyed the world, leading to the Wakfu Era; good introduction to the setting with contributions by Studio Ghibli and MADHOUSE.

Wakfu animation:

Wakfu

First animated series with 2 seasons of 26 episodes based on Yugo, the first Eliatrope in the World of Twelve, and the Brotherhood of Tofu. This is the series you've most likely heard about a lot. A third season with 13 episodes was confirmed to be in development as of June 2015 with an unknown air date.

Mini-Wakfu

Goes hand-in-hand with Season 1 of the Wakfu series above, featuring chibi diabeetus-inducing skits of each episode.

Maxi-Mini

Unrelated to the series, but contemporary short chibi episodes about Remington and Maskemane, reincarnation in Incarnam and Dragoturkey tuning.

Special episodes:

Goultard le Barbare

The first episode ever made, introducing the Iop demi-god Goultard. Has inferior animation, blood, titties and epic fights.

Noximilien l'horloger

Episode about the backstory of Season 1's villain, Nox. Contains B'AWWWWW. Japanese animator Masaaki Yuasa participated in production, and it really shows.

Wakfu OVAs - 'Le Trône de glace', 'Ush', 'Le mont Dragon'

3 OVA episodes where the Brotherhood of Tofu deals with a renewed threat posed by Ogrest's Chaos. Post-manga and set 6 years after Season 2.

Whoa! What do I watch first?

Goultard le Barbare for a short introduction to Ankama's style (the animation gets much better, but the spirit is still there)

OR

Ogrest, la Légende for a 45-minute immersion into the lore and why everyone blames Ogrest for their problems.

THEN

Dofus: Aux Trésors de Kérubim

OR

Wakfu

Wakfu was made first but is chronologically second. It has an overarching story and epic finales. Dofus aims at a younger audience and may be an easier introduction to the setting. Neither will spoil the other.

While you watch Wakfu...

Noximilien l'horloger is usually recommended after episodes 25 and 26 for the best effect. It initially aired after the end of Wakfu season 1.

Mini-Wakfu after each season 1 episode, if you like silly chibis (no added plot)

THEN

The three Wakfu OVAs after Wakfu - 'Le Trône de glace', 'Ush', 'Le mont Dragon'. Preferably watch these after watching Dofus as well to better know the characters such as Kerub and Joris. Definitely watch these after Ogrest, la légende.

OTHERS

Maxi-Mini is completely irrelevant to either series, but the Incarnam chapter/episode may be of interest to understand that part of the lore. Watch at any time.

Part III - Games

Dofus games:

Dofus MMORPG (or simply Dofus)

The first product Ankama ever made, Dofus is a subscription-based, turn-based tactical RPG.

Dofus Battles 1 & 2

A mix of tower defence, "tower attack" and real-time stratagy for iPad.

Wakfu games:

Wakfu MMORPG (or simply Wakfu)

Similar to Dofus but more recent and focused on player-driven economy, ecology and politics. Free to play since 2014 (except on the French server) and available on Steam!

Islands of Wakfu

A Xbox 360 action-adventure game that tells the end of the Eliatrope civilization. Shows the opposed energies of Wakfu and Stasis in action (don't know what those are? Read the Lore section).

Dead games:

Arena

A PvP game based on Dofus and set in the Hormonde. Closed in 2014.

Gobbowl

A PvP strategy sports game (as featured in Wakfu). Closed in 2014.

Wakfu: Les Gardiens

A episodic browser game about the lost Eliatrope children.

Wakfu TCG

A collectible card game, discontinued but cards can still be found online and are fan-translated at Wakfupedia (also playable online).

Slage

A real-time hack-and-slash game that never saw the light of day.

And then:

Krosmaster

A chibi miniature skirmish game distributed in North America by Japanime Games, also playable online. It's fairly popular among neophytes.

Part VI - Books

Ankama has released several books across the years for both Dofus and Wakfu, and also acts as a publisher for properties outside the Krosmoz. As with their animation and games, they've explored multiple formats and this list will attempt to summarize what each release (or series) is about as well as its format. For more comprehensive details about each, the Krosmoz Wiki has collected some basic data on most of them.

Each entry is presented with the era (Dofus or Wakfu), its French name and the language flags of its official releases. For the latest availability, check the Ankama Shop in your language.

Comics:

Name and Description

Languages

Kerubim: This two-parter is an adventure from Kerub Crepin's heyday in which Crocosec and him must rescue Lou from the ratman Sphincter Cell and save an entire city from his impending invasion. Combining a decidedly creepy art style, convoluted dream sequences and memory loss, don't expect the same experience as the TV series.

Maille à partir: Maille à partir is a collaboration of six artists given a single theme: "where did the Kama found by Ruel Stroud in episode 1 of Wakfu come from?" Given 10 pages each, they put their own spin on the humorous story, which lacks a real sense of continuity or purpose.

Les Mains d'Eniripsa: Another aborted series (Dofus Quest), this time about a pair of Eniripsas who decide to look for Dzibi plants in order to brew potions that will remove all aggressivity from people and bring peace to the world. Demon King Rushu and goddess Eniripsa decide to bet on the outcome: if they succeed, Rushu promises to leave the world in peace; if not, he gets the protagonists' souls. Only one volume was made.

Pandala A silent comic in three parts. Young Pandawa Pandhravan learns the art of combat from Pandawasta after his entire village is decimated by Firefoux. Later developing a friendship with one of his enemies and giving up on vengeance, he goes on a quest with Leopardo to learn more about their common master's past and save an old friend of his.

N/A

Boufbowl: A four-part comic series showing the early career of Gobbowl star Kriss Krass (seen in Wakfu seasons 1 & 2).

Le Corbeau Noir: An origin story of how Kabrok met Miranda (from Wakfu season 1) and became the Black Crow. Part of Wakfu Heroes.

L'Île de Lorose: This is the only album to have seen the light of day in a collection (Nébuleuse) that was meant to give authors carte blanche to create stories intended for mature audiences in Wakfu's setting. Reportedly filled with violence and profanity, the story is about a group of outsiders shunned for their flaws and looking for an island supposed to give them a chance for a new beginning.

Justice: A Wakfu Heroes comic about the Knights Justice (Wakfu season 2) and more particularly Junior, when he was still a boy. Heavy references to the Batman universe with a group of "supervillains" trying to best the Justice clan once and for all.

Les Kamas de la soif: A side adventure of the Brotherhood of the Tofu taking place during season 2. Lost in the desert, they come across a village whose oasis has mysteriously gone dry, with nearby Rogues selling water at astronomical prices. The Spanish edition combines the original two volumes.

Les Larmes de sang: The story of Silas, a young Sacrier, coming to terms with the loss of his parents and his inability to protect his loved ones. Enter Naïma, an Eniripsa with her own troubled past, and their burgeoning love story put to an end by the intervention of demons... and the fact that the series never continued past the second volume.

Maskemane: A 12-part series about the Masqueraider Maskemane, fleeing from Kouto Smisse's (king of Rogues) henchmen sent to steal his three ancestral masks. With a developing compassion between him and one of his pursuers, the intertwining story of more hunters sent after him in return for a cure to their curse, and the intervention of Dark Vlad and an ancient evil, the series is heavy on character relations and high stakes.

Percimol: Another Wakfu Heroes entry about a side character from the animated series, this one about the Puddly hero Percimol (whose statue can be seen in episode 5). It tells the story of how he found his signature mask and powerful hammer and took on the role of protector for his people.

Remington: This 12-part series introduces the Rogues Remington and Grany Smisse, sons of Kouto Smisse, who can be seen causing trouble in Wakfu's second season. The story takes place before Grany was turned into a Bow Meow (cat) and revolves mainly around the Ecaflip demigod Ush Galesh, who tricks them and curses Grany, promising to break the curse if they can defeat him. Not suitable for young readers.

Shak Shaka: A side adventure of the Brotherhood of the Tofu taking place during season 1. The group finds an impressive but deserted theme park during their quest and its princely creator takes an interest in Amalia while the rest of the group faces peril at the hands of his automatons.

Tangomango: A trilogy that acts as both an origin story and continuation for the characters Encre Noire and Elaine Narrowsmith, introduced in the second season of Wakfu. Beginning with their struggles to cobble together a decent ship and become real pirates in a region where their kind is hunted mercilessly, they return after their incursion in the animated series to take part in an important pirate tournament that could dramatically change the tides for piracy in the Mild Waters. A successful mix of humor and character development with a healthy dose of mystery, with room for a second trilogy but no current plans to continue publication.

Le Théâtre maudit: A side adventure of the Brotherhood of the Tofu taking place during season 2. While looking for the Crimson Claw Archipelago, they cross paths with a travelling group of actors who recreate the Brotherhood's many adventures. To improve their act, they ask the heroes to tell their stories and join the plays, but the troupe is cursed and Amalia mysteriously disappears after the first night.

Manga:

Name and Description

Languages

Dofus-Arena: Pym Eoliath is a young Sacrier who studies magic, but performs poorly. By accident, he opens a portal to the Hormonde, where various adventurers from all eras are forced to fight as gladiators after being kidnapped by the Hour Demons. This is but the beginning of his troubles as his friends become involved and one of his teachers turns out to be in league with the demons. A lot of fighting ensues.

DOFUS Manga: Ankama's most successful series, the very reason they branched off into publishing as no other company was willing to associate with it. Now boasting more than 20 issues and still going strong, and being diligently translated to Spanish, it is entirely focused on Iop demigod Goultard and his friend Arty's adventures. The series touches on a lot of characters and locations, and often demons, but is known for going against established canon. With this in mind, it is still the best place to look for information on Goultard and his alternate personalities Vald and Dark Vlad, particularly with the Goultard Bazar special issue.

Only the first issue, Jelly Instinct, is available in English.

Dofus Monster: Each installment in this series of manga is a standalone that gives the origin story of a famous villain of the world of Dofus. Despite the name, it features humans as well as monsters and, as can be expected, it tends to incorporate tragic endings.

Le Chevalier Noir is the only issue to also be available in Spanish and German.

Ogrest: The most recent addition to Ankama's manga roster is focused on the early life of Ogrest. Readers should watch Ogrest, la légende first for the birth of Ogrest, as the first manga picks up where the episode concludes. As the series progresses, it should include more involvement by the Brotherhood of the Forgotten, antagonists of the Wakfu OVAs of whom little is known to date.

WAKFU Manga: This yearly series begins a few months after the second season of Wakfu. The Brotherhood of the Tofu is forced to go looking for the Eliatrope Dofus for Jiva, Protector of Javian, who has taken Chibi and Grougaloragran hostage. With only a year to perform the task, they enlist the help of the Knights Justice's technology to travel the world to Mount Zinit, where they hope to find clues regarding the Dofus' locations. Still in progress, with three issues released to date.

Volumes 1 and 2 have been released in English on Comixology only, and it is unknown whether more translations will follow.

Various:

Aux Trésors de Kerubim novels: These short stories based on the Dofus TV series follow a similar format, where each book is a self-contained adventure told to Joris based on an item from Kerub's shop. Similar to the Wakfu novels (below), the story is interspersed with images in the style of the cartoon and aimed at a young audience comparable to that of the TV series. The first novel is called Le Ciel sur la tête.

Dofus Gamebooks: Ankama launched a series of gamebooks in 2013 set in the Age of the Dofus, starting with Les Vents d'émeraude. Each one lets the player assume the role of an adventurer on a quest for a Primordial Dofus, which should lead to a total series of six volumes. With the Emerald, Crimson and Turquoise Dofus adventures released as of 2015, each book lets the player choose from one of the MMORPGs' classes, save for a few. Each class grants a slightly different ability that revolves around healing or avoiding damage and may offer unique choices along the story.

Wakfu novels: The Wakfu "novels" are a series of novellas that tell a single story of the Brotherhood of the Tofu during season 1 of the animated series. They are illustrated with numerous images in the style of the cartoon and aimed at a young audience, published by Bayard Jeunesse rather than Ankama themselves. The entire series, starting with L'attaque surprise, is a single adventure where the group has had its most precious items stolen by a band of Rogues and goes after them to recover everything before heading to Oma Island.

Artbooks:

Name and Description

Languages

Dofus Artbooks: Dofus has received five artbooks to date:

  • DOFUS 2.0 Artbook was made to accompany the MMORPG's 2.0 release;

  • DOFUS 2.0 Frigost Art presents the island of Frigost and its inhabitants in great detail, from the game's perspective;

  • DOFUS Artbook Session 2 is mostly focused on lore, with the origins of the World of Twelve, the gods and their classes, and some important events of the Age of the Dofus;

  • DOFUS Artbook Session 3 is a bestiary that also features maps and information on the Protectors of the Months;

  • The 10 Years of DOFUS Artbook is a generous offering of art from the MMORPG, Wakfu TCG, Krosmaster, several of Ankama's books and the animations Goultard le barbare, Ogrest, la légende and Dofus: Kerub's Bazaar.

Beware that while they are all available on the English portion of Ankama Shop, Session 2 is not in fact translated (and likely features the most text).

Wakfu Artbooks: Going over each episode of Wakfu season 1, as well as the special episode Noximilien l'horloger, these bilingual artbooks present the characters, locations and making-of anecdotes of the animated series.

Xa Colors Xavier Houssin, long-time head designer for Dofus and Wakfu media, released his first artbook with this collection of art related to both universes, but also from all sorts of personal work.

Magazines:

Both Dofus and Wakfu have one or more magazine lines with information about the games, but also the lore, short stories, fan art and more. The major ones are called Dofus Mag and Wakfu Mag, and can be bought online.

Part VI - F.A.Q.

Is Wakfu / Dofus in my language?

Wakfu has aired in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and Turkey. The Kickstarted English dub started airing in Australia in October 2014 and is available on Netflix in many countries, while others have access to the French dub subtitled in their language. Australians can buy it on DVD.

Dofus has aired in France, Poland and Italy. It's on the French Netflix and perhaps other locations, to be confirmed.

Most Ankama games are available in French and English, some in more launguages. Some manga and very few comics are available in multiple language too (see the Books section).

There was a Kickstarter?

Yes! They raised nearly $500,000 CAD to dub Wakfu themselves, hoping to attract a network to show the series on TV or streaming. They have since reached Netflix and Australian TV. The three 2014 OVAs have also been dubbed, and an extra episode was funded in the process. However, the Blurays are exclusive to backers, so obtaining one is extremely rare.

They also translated the Nox and Ogrest special episodes, Mini-Wakfu, Wakfu Manga 1 & 2 (released through Comixology) and many other things (see the Kickstarter page for more info).

Wait! I need more details about _______!

4chan or plus4chan's /co/ board is also a good place to ask for links and general information in their Wakfu threads.
